Transcript: | Attempted Lynching:. A mob of about 500 persons at tempted to take William Thompson, a negro, from jail at Mobile and lynch him. The mob broke into the jail yard. The sheriff’s deputies met them at the door armed with rifles, which they discharged, with blank . cartridges, over the heads of the mob, no one being hurt. Then committee of the mob was admitted to the jail, and after assurance was given that the negro was not there, the mob dispersed. |
