At Carrollton, Ala. a masked mob broke into the jail and shot to death Paul Hill, Polk Archer, Will Archer, and Emma Fair, all colored. They were charged with burning J.E Woods’ cotton gin and mill. One Guyton, a white man, was also locked up having been charged with turning in State evidence. The mob let him go. The others were shot to death in their cells while on their knees pleading for mercy.
