Transcript: | Died by Hanging and Shooting. COLUMBUS, Miss., January 5.-Last Saturday, at Alta, William B. Pope was shot and killed by a negro named Lewis Austin. Austin was pursued by a party and captured. He was forthwith bung to the limb of a tree and his body fired full of bui- : lets. A jury was empanelled, and brought in the 1 following unique verdiet: “We find that Lewis Austin eame to his death by being hung and shot ( this, the 30th day of December.” Died by Hanging and Shooting.
