Two negroes were lynched near Foster’s in this county last week. They confessed to having robbed and burned the stores of Mr. Guy Foster and Mr. D. S. Robertson. They were given a preliminary trial be- fore Justice A. J. Townsend and bound over to the Circuit Court. The guards who had them in charge for the purpose of bringing them to jail, were overpowered by a crowd of masked men and the negroes were hung to the limb of a tree near at hand. A placard was pinned to the back of each, one with the inscription, “Protec- tion to our homes!” the other “Warning to house burneral” Two negroes were lynched near Foster’s in this county last week.
