Transcript: | A deplorable occurrence took place on the plantation of Dr. Wm. Hester, below Northport. Mr. Geo. Neilson, who is in charge of the place, shot a negro employe, nam-ed Wm. Dukes, during a difficulty. From accounts which we hear, several blows were struck, when the negro reached for an ax, and was shot by Neilson before he could possess himself of the weap- on. Dukes died in about three hours. |
