For several months the police have frequently arrested negro “trustics” charged with serious offenses. Efforts have been made to have the custom of making “trusties” stopped, but they have been in vain. Judge John says the guards who allow these “trusties” to leave the Jall are as guilty as the negroes who commit the offenses. Some of the largest fines Imposed yes- terday were: Charles Smith, negro, disorderly con- duct, $50; Arthur Faircloth, negro. carry- ing concealed weapons, $100; John Sim- mons, negro, gaming, $50; Sam Johnson, negro, gaming, $100; Robert Myers, gam- ing, $50; C. Mooncy, violating Sunday law, $25; Joe Wiefelch, violating Sunday law, $53; Sam Hanover, violating Sunday lew, $25; James Miles, violating Sunday law, $25; Lottle Lane, negro, larceny of a watch, $50; Arthur Henderson, negro, larceny of chickens, $25; D. L. Drake ag- gravated disorderly conduct, $25; L. Tem- ple, Jerry Grant, Fred Brown, James Letcher and Ed Green, negroes, gaming, $100 each; Harris Berry, grand larceny, bound over to the Criminal Court under $500 bonds; Ed gnipes, negro, assault and battery, $25.
