Negro Lynched By Angry Whites. Shot A. C. Paulk, Who Caught him Trying To Steel Cash. Mob took Him Quietly To Execution. Dothan, Ala, Jan 20.— A mob of about 200 masked men lynched Cleveland Franklin, a negro Sunday night. The negro, who was an employee of the Southern Cotton Oil company, shot and seriously wounded A. C. Faulk, the secretary and treasurer of the company. The negro was caught in the act of robbing the cash register by Mr. Faulk. Franklin stated that the superintendent had told him to do some repair work on it. When Mr. Faulk turned to call the superintendent the negro pulled his pistol and fired five times, two of the bullets taking effect. The negro made his escape and a posse was organized and searched for him all Saturday night. Sunday morning it was learned the negro had been captured at Webb, Ala., and he was brought back to Dothan by private conveyance. Just as the officer had put up his buggy and started to the jail with the negro, the mob appeared and took the negro away. He was carried a short distance and strung up and his body riddled with bullets. No further trouble is expected.
