PROFESSOR HARDY WOUNDED BY NEGRO Special to The Birmingham News. SELMA, Ala., March 14.-Word was received here yesterday of the shooting of Prof. Claude Hardy at Pineapple early in the morning by a negro by the name of Will Ptomey. The negro had picked a quarrel with some negroes on Professor Hardy’s plantation. Professor Hardy went to Ptomey’s house to see what was the cause of the trouble when Ptomey picked up a pistol and fired, the ball entering Professor Hardy’s breast and inflicting a serious wound. Sheriff Blackwell’s bloodhounds were telegraphed for to aid in the capture of Ptomey, who immediately after the shooting made his escape. Professor Hardy is one of the most prominent citizens of Wilcox county.
