Rumor of Rape. Messrs Ramsey and Freeman of Reece’s Beat were in Tuskaloosa yesterday and brought the news of a rape in their neighborhood and the death of the guilty party. The victim, it is said, was a Miss Freeman and the friend, who was a negro, was named Sam Johnson. He was caught and brought up before Squire Tannehill and was committed to jail. While on the way with him he attempted to escape and it seems was shot and killed before he could be recaptured.
