SELMA, ALA. Great Excitement Prevailing and Fears of a Negro Insurrection Increasing. [SPECIAL TO THE APPEAL.] Selma, May 12. A large scope of country above here is wild with excitement. It all comes from the rape of a white lady by a negro. The rapist escaped. His father swore vengeance, and his dead body was found Sunday in a forest. One other negro is dead and a third missing. Three hundred armed white men gathered to suppress a threatened insurrection of the negroes. The whole country is aroused and in arms.
