Transcript: | White Cappers Convited. Attorney-General Fitts was in Wetumpka last week assisting solicitor Brewer in prosecuting the white-cappers, Josephus Jowers, John Edwards, and John Morgan, who were chrged with murdering Rufus Swindal, colored, in Elmore county in March 1895. After a long and hard fight by the attorneys on both sides, the ease was sumitted to the jury Wednesday night about 7 o’clock. Thursday about 11 o’clock the jury brought in the verdict. They found Josephus Jowers and John Edwards guilty of murder in the second degree and fixed their punishment at ten years in the peniterntiary. John Morgan was acquitted. |
