Word Clouds

Words clouds are visual representations of text data used to depict keywords. These words were taken from a sample size of exactly one hundred articles reporting on the lynchings of Henry (Andy) Burke, Bud Wilson, Charles McKelton, John Johnson, Sidney Johnson, John Durrett, Cicero Cage, Dennis Cross, Dan Pippen, and A.T Harden between 1884-1933. Below are the five questions we asked when formulating the word clouds, followed by the corresponding word cloud itself.

How was the black lynching victim described?

How is the crime for which the black man is lynched described?

How was the white woman whom the black man/men allegedly assaulted described?

How was the white community described?

How was the lynching of the black victim described?
