Abuse of the Pardoning Power. Gov. Oates has pardoned Alonzo Edwards, of Elmore County, who was convicted of white-capping and sentenced to ten years in the penitentiary. No convict should be pardoned unless for excellent reasons. A man pardoned by Gov. Jones was recently engeaged in murderout assault upon two aged ladied for the purpose of robbery; an this only one instance of the many in which executive clmency has been abused.– Tuskegee News.
