Another Negro Lynched-foreigner Buneoed- A suspect arrested
Birmingham, Ala, Feb. 20- (Special)- Reports to-night from Jemison, Chilton County, say that Louis Hendricks, the third negro supposed to have been implicated in the rape and murder of Mrs. Rucker near Stanton last Thursday, for which two negros have already been lynched has been shot to death. The story goes that Hendrick’s’ actions becoming suspicious he was arrested last Saturday. He escaped and in so doing was shot twice and badly wounded. It is said that evidence pointing to his guilt was then discovered and search for him commenced by armed citizens. Hendricks boarded a Louisville and Nashville fright train last night, near Jemison and was put off. Dogs were put on his trail today and he was run down to-night, so it is said, and surrounded in a swamp. He resisted arrest and was riddled with bullets. One of the negroes who was lynched Friday confessed, implicating only one other, who was also caught and lynched. However it is said later evidence showed Hendricks to be implicated too
