– ELLEDGE PLEADS SELF- DEFENSE IN KILLINGS TUSCALOOSA, ALA., March 28.-Spe- cial to The Advertiser.-Earnest Elledge of Elrod, charged with the murder of Dave and Jerry Brown, negro brothers, has pleaded self defense and been re- leased by county authorities on $2,000 bond. Elledge confessed to the killing of the two negroes late Sunday night on a road near Elrod. According to his version of the story, his father had had a controversy with the negroes over one of them leaving a mule in the field hitched to a plow. The senlor Elledge had been threatened by the negroes and when Earnest Elledge saw them on the road, he got out of his car, to warn them against harming his father. At this time, Elledge stated, one of the men started to attack him and he fired in self-defense, shooting and both when the other negro ran to the aid of his brother. Elledge’s companion re- mained in the car during the trouble. Action of county authorities will be taken later.
