Mobile, Ala., April 7. – The fate of Walter Clayton, the negro trusty convict who criminally assaulted Mrs. White at Rosington and later taken from the sheriff of Baldwin county by a mob of lynchers is still shrouded in mystery. The citizens of Bay Minette are silent as to the matttr when questioned. Persons arriving in Mobile from that neighborhood tell conflicting stories, some of which are to the effect that the lynching party was under the influence of liquor and while in such condition, permitted the negro to escape and other stories state that the negro was undoubtedly lynched and his body made way with.

Governor Comer has offered a reward for his arrest, but this is supposed to be only a blind.
