We learn from the Columbus (Miss.) Dispatch, that Mr. Wm. B. Pope, son of Col. Ben. F. Pope, of Gadson, was shot and dangerously wounded by a negro named Austin at Alta on the Georgia Pacific railroad, on Saturday, the 29th alt. The negro fled, but was pursued and overtaken about 1 o’clock on the morning of the 30th u/t. He was immediately strung up to a limb of a tree and his body riddled with bullets. Young Pope was taken by special train to Columbus, Miss, to receive medical treatment, and is doing well, but not yet out of danger. His father is in Columbus, and we hope to here of the young man’s speedy recovery.
