We learn from the Columbus (Miss.) Dispatch, that Mr. Wm. B. Pope, son of Col. Ben. F. Pope, of Gadson, was shot and dangerously wounded by a negro named Austin at Alta on the Georgia Pacific railroad, on Saturday, the 29th ult The ne gro fled, but was pursued and overtaken about 1 o’c/ock on the morning of the 30th u/t. IIe was immediate’y strung up to a limb of a tree and his body riddled with bullets. Young Pope was taken by a special train to Columbus, Miss, to re- ceive medical treatment, and is doing well, but not yet out of danger.
