Transcript: | Tuscaloosa Surprised. Everyone here was greatly surprised to read in the Saturday evening Bir- mingham News that Sheriff Palmer had taken the negro, Frank Richard- son, to Birmingham for safe keeping for fear a mob would lynch him. There was no talk whatever of a mob form – ing to lynch this negro after the gov- – ernor had given him a reprieve of minety days. Judge Foster said he was greatly surprised at the action of Sheriff Pal- mer in taking the negro to Birming- ham, as it would give people an op- portunity to say that Tuscaloosa county was not a law-abiding county.
